Here's your chance to conquer one of the highest free-standing mountains in the world with an amazing trek up Mount Kenya. You will start in the lush green settings at base camp and finish with a snow-capped summit where it is possible to see its sister mountain - Kilimanjaro - all the way in neighbouring Tanzania!
Just miles away from the equator, Mount Kenya is a dormant volcano that was was discovered in the mid-1800s but only first climbed in 1899. Despite being so close to the equator, the altitude of its cap means it is littered with glaciers and snow - and is also an imperative source of water for a large area of Kenya.
At over 17,000ft tall, Mount Kenya is some challenge but with effort and determination - mountain glory is yours! You will embark on a five-day haul which includes four nights in mountain huts/camping. You will be assisted in your climb by a guide and a cook.
Temperatures at base camp can be very warm but the climate drops significantly as you ascend. Subsequently, you will need to pack thermal clothing for the latter part of your climb.
Please note: You should possess a relatively good level of fitness as the challenge involves a considerable amount of hiking. It is advisable that you consult your Doctor before climbing.
Day 1
You will begin with a relaxing evening at Mount Kenya Lodge, just a short way from the gates of Mount Kenya National Park, in preparation for your ascent.
Day 2
Once you are packed, you'll march on with your guides through the gates and past base camp for a 10km hike before reaching your evening's accommodation at Old Moses camp.
Day 3
After an early start, you'll cover over 13km today - the longest distance of your five-day trip! Your path will lead you through Mackinder's Valley (named after the first person to summit Mount Kenya) and to Shiptons Camp at 4200m (13,800ft) above sea level
Day 4
You will need to wake up around 3am in order to summit in time for sunrise and some truly breath-taking views. On a clear day, it is possible to see Mount Kilimanjaro in neighbouring Tanzania! You'll stay overnight at a campsite approximately half way down the mountain to get some rest after a long day's climb.
Day 5
Having caught up on some much-needed sleep, you'll head towards the park gates after completing your 60km trek!
It is important to know exactly what you get with your trip so you can plan ahead with no unwanted surprises!

" I have always wanted to climb a mountain and, although it was freezing at the top, the feeling of triumph at the top made all the effort worthwhile! "
Helen, 24, Leeds
" Our climb was tough but the energy and enthusiasm between our group rubbed off on one another through the tougher periods during the climb and everyone made it to the top, which was incredible. We made it just in time for dawn and I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it. The views were amazing and everything seemed so peaceful above the clouds. "
Simon, 32, Hull
